4th of July

It was one of the most beautiful July days for the big Fourth of July celebrations on the Moody County Courthouse lawn. 2014 was a special year as the Time Capsule, sealed for the past 100 years in the cornerstone of the building, was brought out and opened.

Hundreds turned out for the ceremony, which in many ways, recreated the original celebration in 1914. There were games, horse drawn wagon rides, historical tours throughout town, contests for period dress and style, music, food vendors, speeches and families gathered to see just what was put into that box 100 years ago.

As the original box gets set to be put back into place and another box is ready to be filled and sealed by a new generation of Moody County residents, there is much anticipation about another big 4th of July celebration in Flandreau next year.

Hope to see you all again for the camaraderie and fireworks in 2015!
